If you haven't checked out this blog, Out Where The Buses Don't Run, you're missing something special. Plus, it's your own damn fault...Lord knows I've certainly talked about it enough. There was a reason for following Gus Sanchez—despite my mother's warnings—and now I feel vindicated for my blind faith and stupidity.
He's good. Damn good. But I knew that.
It's a fact that became quite evident by the recent Freshly Pressed status of his article, Should a Debut Novel Play it Safe? In case you don't know what Freshly Pressed is, simply put, it's when an article on a blog is so well-written, interesting, humorous and the like, the good folks at WordPress spotlight it—kind of like an editor's pick.
Scouring the content of over a half-million blogs per day, they choose only ten bloggers to spotlight. Gus's article above earned him a place as one of them. I'd say that's quite an honor, and if you click this Freshly Pressed link, there is a whole article written by the WordPress people concerning the requirements. Give it a look over—there are also some valuable tips on blogging in general.
Out of all the gin blogs in all the towns in all the world, I had to walk into his...and am a much better writer for the experience.
And by the way, Gus is a faithful contributor to and member of the IWSG! When I was over there, it was shocking to see a mere six visitors. Let's show him a little more support, folks.
Run, don't walk, to the place where the buses don't. You may get stranded, but you'll love every minute of it. It's my guilty pleasure.
And while on the subject of WordPress, I will be moving to my own domain shortly, mlswift.me, and hope that all of you will follow me there. It will also go by the name, M.L. Swift, Writer.
This blog didn't transfer too well in the export, and WordPress is a little bit different than Blogger (i.e., there's a lot of new stuff to learn), so after the site is all prettied up and the way I like it, I'll make a final post here and move permanently over that way.
But that's to come. For now, Gus's post with the news of being Freshly Pressed, including the link to his im-Press-ive article:

I had checked my e-mail earlier tonight, as a matter of habit. I know I'll probably have about 15-20 e-mails waiting, the majority of which are from retailers whom I'm too lazy to unsubscribe from their mass e-mailings.
I nearly shit a brick when I saw over 125 unread e-mail messages. What the...? I assumed the worst: that I'd been spam attacked again.
Woohoo! Congrats to Gus, and what's up with those 125 emails? That's very odd.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting on my blog! :-)
I try to go see everyone that I can...you know...and still write. :o) Thanks for popping by. I think the 125 emails were comments and new followers. WP emails you with that info, if you choose that option.
DeleteCongratulations, Gus!
ReplyDeleteAnd only six comments? He needs more.
Thanks for going over there and seeing him, Alex. I hope others discover him. I met him through my first IWSG...liked the name of his blog.
DeleteI'll have to fly there and check. :)
ReplyDeleteBe still your dragon heart, though, Father. His site is rather in-your-face. But he's an excellent writer. Great voice.
DeleteCongrats Gus and good luck.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
Thanks for coming by, Yvonne. :) Loved your post yesterday.
DeleteWell done, Gus, and thanks Mike for harping on about this guy. He is pretty far out.
ReplyDeleteWhy the change to WordPress? If you'd like to be freshly pressed I can send you an iron.
Glad you like Gus. Be warned—he cusses like a sailor, but it's not gratuitous...really fits his voice.
DeleteI don't do ironing. I either send it out or mist it with water and throw it in the dryer to fluff.
The change to WP seems to be the next directed step. In all my following and reading and research, and more reading and research, WP appears to be the most expandable, professional, and appealing to agents and publishers.
And much harder to figure out. I'm trying to look to the future, and build the foundation today for the direction I want to take. Set things in place. Blogger is much easier to understand and navigate, though. I'm still going over WP tutorials. It's a mess over there right now. :o)
Phew, I don't iron either. I don't even fluff, (no lady ever does).
DeleteThanks for the Wordpress rundown. I thought the greater complexity I've noticed on some sites was just my imagination. I can't wait to see what you come up with.
Thanks for the heads up about Gus, you little defector, you. *pouts* We're losing another one to Wordpress...
ReplyDeleteAck! It's a big move, and a tenuous one. I created it over two weeks ago and have barely done squat with it.
ReplyDeleteThe tutorials offered over there are excellent (just look at the article about Fresh Pressed) and many. I've actually loved Blogger and navigate it well, but it feels limited for the future plans I envision. So, while still new in the blogging/writing world and before going any further, I want to pour the cement on the WP one and build my house on that.
I'll still only be a click away, though. :o)
Thanks for stopping by my blog - new follower from the IWSG.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for returning the favor. I like your style...will be popping by as often as I can - and still squeeze in all the other stuff! Hope to see you over at my new site when I move...probably in March - definitely for the Top Ten Movie Blogfest on the 18th. The new site is what I used to sign up for it and the A-Z. mlswift.me
DeleteWow, I can't believe I've missed commenting on so many of your posts. Didn't realize I was so wayyy behind. Sorry Charlie.
ReplyDeleteWay to go in support of Gus. I love seeing that type of support for fellow writers from the company I keep. I'll pop over to read his freshly pressed article.
< flailing hands and fingers, signing... > :o)
DeleteBecause of your wonderful tribute to Gus, I am also a new follower!
ReplyDeleteThanks for following my blog too. All the best.
Thanks, Wendy. You've got a nice blog yourself!
DeleteThat's a huge honor. Good on ya, Gus!
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by, Lynda!
DeleteOn my way over ====> (:
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elise. :o)
DeleteI've thought of switching over, but I'm happy where I am.
ReplyDeleteI can't follow wordpress blogs. Blogger will only let me follow Blogger ones. I've reached max capacity (though I'm not sure why it still lets me follow more Blogger blogs).
I like it with Blogger, too...just following all the advice of those who have done both and find WP is more to their liking. I've been contemplating it for a couple of months now. At the moment, I hate it...not as user-friendly as Blogger. I have to learn a lot.
DeleteWhen I get over there, just follow by email. :o)
Not big on running, but I'll pick up my pace to brisk.
ReplyDeleteI've been under the editing rock for the past couple of weeks, it's nice to squint into the sunlight again :)
I guess that's where I've been too, Charmaine. Working on several things. This comment snuck in on me (a few of these did).
DeleteYou're so funny. I can get you an electric scooter if you need it. :o)
Thanks for commenting on my post at Lynda Young's blog today :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Carol. I liked your take on social media.
DeleteSo you're leaving blogspot! People do rave about wordpress, but it is so different. I'll have to watch you go through the hard part and see how you do. In other words, I'll use you as a test subject! I'll check out that post this weekend - So excited I'm going on a stay-cation!
ReplyDeleteBut anyway, I want to thank you again for entering the LibraryThing giveaway and your comments on IWSG, and I have emailed out the code for the free download. Just wanted to give you a personal thanks since the code was sent out in a BBC email.
You can watch me trip all over myself as long as you'd like, Nancy. I'm sure there will be much of it going on. :o)
DeleteI'm in such anticipation of Anticipation of the Penitent. Thanks for the LT heads-up in your article, otherwise I would've never known about the site. I received an email from LT with the comment on my profile telling me I had won it. Haven't received the email with the code, though. Can't wait.
